Project Description
SMH Technologies is thrilled to announce the support of the latest Microchip® devices PIC32C.
The PIC32C family is built upon existing SAM and PIC32M microcontrollers, which are already supported by FlashRunner. These new devices utilize Arm® Cortex® M0+ core architectures, providing a unified and simplified development experience. This includes access to powerful peripherals and advanced analog features while maintaining the ability to operate at low power consumption levels.
In particular, these new PIC32C devices are considered a cost-effective addition to the SAM C2x family, allowing pin compatibility with SAM C20 devices. This allows upgrading already existent layouts to include these new microcontrollers while maintaining low costs.
Unlike the older PIC32M family, which used the ICSP protocol, this new architecture allows connections made via SWD. This wider diffused protocol ensures less overhead, more reliability, and higher frequencies at the same number of connections.
These characteristics made it perfectly suitable for In-System Programming through FlashRunner, which ensures fast and stable programmability on all memory sizes in which these devices are produced.
FlashRunner enables the management of cybersecurity protection features on the device side. They can be protected from any read and write access and, as indicated by the device specifications, they can be unprotected by erasing all memory in order to ensure re-programmability.
In addition, for better programming times, this new driver also supports a chip erase command, which makes the erasure operation about 10 times faster.
Looking ahead, the new PIC32C family of microcontrollers will likely see widespread adoption. This is due to the popularity of their predecessor models, the SAM and PIC32M microcontrollers, as well as the diverse range of functionalities that the various implementations of the PIC32C device can provide.
