Project Description

Introduction

SMH Technologies is excited to announce support for Texas Instruments’ TMS320F28x real-time microcontrollers. C2000™ microcontrollers (MCUs) offer low latency, real-time control solutions for automotive applications across all performance levels and price points. When combined with gallium nitride (GaN) integrated circuits (ICs) and silicon carbide (SiC) power devices, C2000 real-time MCUs enable higher switching frequencies, increased power density, and improved accuracy and efficiency.

These real-time MCUs are suitable for powertrain, traction, onboard charging, DC/DC conversion and body control applications.

cJTAG (IEEE 1149.7) protocol support

One of the key features of latest releases of these devices is their dual-protocol debugging and programming capabilities. With support for both cJTAG (compact JTAG) and JTAG (Join Test Action Group) protocols, the TMS320F28x devices are fully compatible with FlashRunner technology, providing a streamlined and efficient flashing experience. FlashRunner ensures quick and reliable programming, allowing users to easily integrate and manage these devices in their projects.

DCSM (Dual Code Security Module) and JTAGLOCK support

We are also proud to announce that FlashRunner, once the MCU has been programmed and secured through DCSM password, is able to unlock the MCU and re-connect again in case of re-programming needs or security settings reviews. Furthermore, in the C2000™ Microcontroller (MCU) devices starting with the TMS320F2838x product family the JTAGLOCK feature provides an additional layer by blocking JTAG (debugger) access to the device entirely. For those devices FlashRunner is capable to unlock the JTAG by providing the so said JLM password.

Dual Core devices support

With added support for TMS320F2838xD family FlashRunner can also program dual C28x core devices as well as their Connectivity Manager based on Arm® Cortex®-M4 architecture.

Conclusions

For those seeking comprehensive guidance on how to connect and utilize TMS320F28x devices, SMH Technologies has created a dedicated Wiki page. This resource offers detailed instructions, step-by-step examples (under construction), and a full list of supported commands for both cJTAG and JTAG protocols, ensuring users can quickly and efficiently integrate these devices into their projects.
